Seriously, stop this shit. Just because I enjoy science fiction does not mean I enjoy shitty TV shows like Star Trek, Buffy, Angel, etc. (Firefly & Battlestar Galactica FTW!).
Science fiction is about blowing your mind, not PEW PEW lasers and people with bad makeup.

Love the list of writers. This is why I try to keep the idea of Sci-fi and science fiction separate. Sci-fi, in my mind, is the lasers, bad makeup, everyone speaking English and artificial gravity which is never used for anything but making walking easier. Science Fiction is much more about your list of great writers, and of course many more.
Can’t we enjoy them both? I know I do. Mind you, I do often wonder why, with so many good writers in the world, TV series like Star Trek don’t make better use of them.
Also, do you notice a dearth of women on your list?

I did enjoy Elizabeth Moon and Justina Robinson, but I lost interest in their books after one or two. Robinson’ss Mappa Mundi was good, and the first few of Moon’s Vatta’s War were good..Do you have any recommendations I can try?
On the topic of TV series making use of the good writers, I wish games would turn to science fiction for some good ideas too! There’s a serious lack of imagination in current games and far too many use dull world war and fantasy themes.
